Ubisoft has officially announced the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, an updated version of the iconic pirate adventure game featuring Edward Kenway. The release is scheduled for July 9, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Unlike the latest installments in the franchise, the new project is not an RPG: developers have kept the single-player adventure structure, foregoing multiplayer and additional DLC. As noted by MeriStation, the main focus is on the protagonist’s storyline.
Graphics and Mechanics
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced features a completely overhauled visual design: the game is built on a modern version of the Anvil engine, enabling dynamic lighting, improved textures, and more detailed environments. According to Ubisoft, animations, weather effects, and sound design now match the level of the most recent releases in the series. The project will include new pirate songs, additional character lines, and reworked music—one track is once again being crafted by Grammy nominee Woodkid.
Gameplay has also been updated. The combat system is now more dynamic: players can use parries to instantly eliminate enemies and perform up to four consecutive finishing moves. The arsenal includes two-handed swords, pistols, and hidden blades, and the environment allows for using destructible objects for tactical advantages. The stealth system now features a crouch option, while parkour has gained new moves inspired by recent entries in the franchise.
Story and New Features
The remake does not include content from Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry — that story remains in the classic version. Instead, Ubisoft has added new episodes focused on Edward Kenway’s internal struggles. The modern-day scenes have been reworked: they now concentrate on the protagonist’s experiences rather than side characters. Actor Matt Ryan returns to the project, having completed additional motion capture sessions for the updated version.
Tail missions no longer end in instant failure upon being detected: if the target spots the player, the mission continues, but the enemy’s behavior changes, requiring quick adaptation. Naval battles remain a key element: the Jackdaw ship now has more weaponry and alternative types of ammunition. You can recruit three new officers with unique skills for your crew, and Kenway can have a monkey or a cat as a pet.
Editions and bonuses
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will launch in several editions. The Standard Edition will cost €59.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition — €69.99 and will include additional character and ship packs. The Collector’s Edition is priced at €199.99 and contains an Edward Kenway figurine, a Steelbook case, a notebook with notes from the protagonist, a map, and a skull logo brooch. Players who pre-order will receive the exclusive “Blackbeard Pack” with a unique costume, swords, and pistols.
Earlier, the Spanish media discussed incidents when high-profile releases sparked a strong audience reaction and even led to conflicts among fans. For example, after one incident on a popular show, online discussions escalated into widespread attacks, forcing organizers and those close to the participants to respond — more details can be found in the article about the reaction of a Supervivientes contestant’s family to the wave of aggression.
