A new ambitious player is entering the European electric vehicle market — Xiaomi has officially announced the launch of the YU7 GT, an electric SUV with outstanding features and a focus on performance. This model, fine-tuned on the legendary Nürburgring track, makes a statement not just with its power figures, but also with an engineering approach rarely seen among Chinese brands. For Spain, this could become one of the most notable automotive events in the coming years: until now, such a powerful and advanced SUV was the domain of premium brands, whereas Xiaomi now intends to offer an alternative at a more accessible price.
Performance and dynamics
The main feature of the YU7 GT is its dual-motor electric architecture, delivering a total output of 1,003 hp (738 kW). The front motor produces 288 kW (386 hp), while the rear generates 450 kW (604 hp), allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.95 seconds. The top speed is limited to 300 km/h, and the CLTC range reaches 705 km. For a family SUV over five meters in length, these specifications are unprecedented, especially compared to competitors in the segment.
Xiaomi engineers have placed special emphasis on handling and safety: the adaptive air suspension and active stabilization system were calibrated together with European specialists on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Brembo braking system with carbon-ceramic discs provides effective stopping power—the car brakes from 100 to 0 km/h in just 33.9 meters. The intelligent all-wheel drive instantly redistributes torque between the axles, which is especially important for a heavy (2460 kg) and powerful SUV.
Design and Aerodynamics
The appearance of the YU7 GT follows Xiaomi’s signature style—the designers adapted the “water drop” concept from the SU7 sedan to a larger body with a length of 5015 mm. Particular attention was paid to aerodynamics: the drag coefficient is just 0.245 Cx, which is an outstanding result for an SUV in this class. The body features ten aero channels and nineteen vent outlets, which not only reduce drag but also help cool the lithium-ion battery during intense driving. 21-inch wheels and a ducktail rear spoiler complete the look of this dynamic yet practical vehicle.
Interior and Technology
The YU7 GT’s interior embodies Xiaomi’s digital ecosystem concept: the centerpiece is a multimedia system powered by HyperOS, integrating the owner’s smartphone and car into a unified environment. Removable screens are provided for rear seat passengers, allowing independent control of media and climate. This approach sets the model apart from traditional competitors, emphasizing technology and user experience.
Market Strategy and Prospects
The launch of the YU7 GT in the European market is scheduled for 2027, with Spain among the brand’s priority countries. According to Auto Bild, Xiaomi is focusing on a competitive price, which may be significantly lower than that of premium electric SUVs with similar performance. This opens up new opportunities for buyers who previously considered traditional brands. It is important to note that the YU7 GT is Xiaomi’s first global model, originally developed with European standards and expectations in mind.
Amid growing competition among Chinese manufacturers in the European market, the arrival of such a powerful and high-tech SUV could shift the balance in the segment. As with recent initiatives by Geely, who recently unveiled the Eva Cab robotaxi and an innovative 4×4 platform at the Beijing motor show (more about Geely’s technology trends), Xiaomi aims not just to catch up to but to surpass competitors through the integration of digital services and engineering solutions.
For the Spanish market, not only the price will be key, but also the development of the charging infrastructure, which Xiaomi is already beginning to build at strategic locations. The warranty conditions are expected to be as attractive as possible for European buyers. If the stated specifications and pricing policy are maintained at launch, the YU7 GT could become one of the most talked-about new electric SUVs in Spain.
