A tragedy occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Latina district of Madrid: an 81-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a car near a controlled pedestrian crossing on Rafael Finat Street. According to Emergencias Madrid, the incident happened around 12:30, when the victim was run over by a car in close proximity to the traffic light.
Samur-Protección Civil responders quickly arrived at the scene. The woman was in cardiac arrest, and medical personnel immediately began resuscitation efforts. Despite all attempts, they were unable to revive her—she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Madrid municipal police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Authorities are now working to determine exactly how the collision occurred and whether both parties complied with traffic regulations. In such cases, attention is given not only to technical factors but also to the organization of traffic in areas where pedestrian incidents are frequently reported.
Emergency services emphasize that such incidents highlight the importance of strictly following pedestrian crossing rules, especially in areas with heavy traffic and among the elderly residents of the city. Road safety issues in Madrid are regularly discussed, as has happened in other high-profile cases, for example, when the capital debated details of major conflicts and incidents involving well-known figures — you can read more about one such episode in the article about the conflict between Makoke and Kiko Matamoros.
According to Emergencias Madrid, after all necessary procedures were completed, the body of the deceased was handed over to the appropriate services. Official police comments on the results of the preliminary investigation are expected soon.
