Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range challenges the market: 200 km electric range and a surprising price

Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range launched in Spain: an affordable electric car for the city

The Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range, equipped with a 30 kWh LFP battery and 113 hp, offers more than 200 km of WLTP range. The model targets urban drivers and starts at €20,517 before subsidies.

Citroën is focusing on practicality and affordability by launching the new ë-C3 Urban Range on the Spanish market. This electric car, equipped with a 30 kWh LFP battery and 113 hp, is designed for urban use and offers over 200 km of range according to the WLTP cycle. At a time when many buyers are looking for a real solution for daily commutes, rather than a universal car for long trips, this approach seems particularly relevant for Spain.

Urban focus and rational approach

The Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range does not aim to compete with models designed for long-distance travel. The emphasis here is on genuine urban specialization: compact dimensions (length 4,015 mm, width 1,755 mm, height about 1.57 m), a tall and boxy silhouette that visually places the ë-C3 closer to the crossover segment. The exterior doesn’t hide its utilitarian core—an upright front end, protective elements, and a distinctive lighting signature create a recognizable look, while 16-inch wheels in the YOU version highlight its practicality.

Inside, Citroën continues the path of simplification: the C-Zen Lounge concept does away with the traditional instrument panel, replacing it with its own Head Up Display. All information is projected high up and is easy to read without unnecessary distraction. The trim materials don’t aim for luxury—hard plastics predominate—but the smart use of space, convenient storage, and a sense of roominess make up for the minimalism.

Technology and everyday functionality

The basic configuration relies on My Citroën Play with Smartphone Station functionality—the multimedia system is built around the owner’s smartphone. This approach keeps the price at a minimum, although higher-end versions are available for those who prefer a full central display. The front seats benefit from a high seating position, while there is enough space in the second row for adults, which sets the ë-C3 apart from many competitors.

The trunk volume is 310 liters—a figure that confidently meets typical city needs, including weekly shopping. The 83 kW (113 hp) electric motor and 30 kWh LFP battery are paired with a single-speed automatic transmission, focusing on durability and minimizing running costs.

Charging and dynamics: no illusions, but with comfort

Charging infrastructure and recharge speed are another pragmatic aspect of the ë-C3 Urban Range. Fast DC charging of up to 30 kW allows the battery to be replenished from 20 to 80% in about 36 minutes, while 7.4 kW and 11 kW options are available for home or office charging. On the road, the ë-C3 stands out with Citroën’s signature Advanced Comfort suspension with progressive hydraulic cushions—this system handles city bumps, speed bumps, and rough asphalt exceptionally well.

The steering and chassis are not designed for sporty ambitions, but in dense city traffic, the ë-C3 behaves predictably and smoothly. The brakes operate naturally, and throttle response remains gentle even in traffic jams. Average energy consumption varies between 16.5 and 17.9 kWh per 100 km, underscoring the focus on city and suburban driving. On the highway, the range decreases quickly, which is the model’s main compromise.

Price and Rivals: Betting on Realism

The key argument for the Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range is its price. The YOU version starts at €17,100, and with government subsidies and promotions, the final cost can drop to €11,700. This makes the model one of the most affordable electric cars on the Spanish market. Compared to the Dacia Spring, the ë-C3 offers more space, five full doors, and the feel of a ‘grown-up’ car, although Dacia remains the leader in terms of minimum price. The Leapmotor T03 offers a greater range, but loses out in image and dealer support. The Hyundai Inster, meanwhile, moves into a higher price segment and offers up to 370 km WLTP range, but demands a significantly larger budget.

Amid growing interest in city electric vehicles in Spain, the arrival of the Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range looks like a logical step. The model is clearly positioned as a tool for daily tasks, without promising versatility, but offering a straightforward alternative for those not willing to overpay for excessive range. In this sense, the ë-C3 Urban Range is a direct response to the demands of Spanish buyers seeking a balance of price, practicality, and real-world electric vehicle capabilities.

In the context of the market, it is worth noting that the affordable electric vehicle segment in Spain is becoming increasingly competitive. With the arrival of new models such as the Geely E5, which recently debuted with a range of up to 475 km and a price below €30,000, the market is seeing more and more alternatives for different use cases. Nevertheless, the Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range occupies its own niche, emphasizing its genuine urban specialization and offering a minimal entry threshold into the world of electric vehicles.
