In Aldaia (Valencia), police have detained two young men, aged 18 and 20, on suspicion of a series of attacks against migrants. According to the Civil Guard, the suspects deliberately targeted an area frequented by foreigners and knocked them down from electric scooters, and sometimes even while they were walking. Some of these incidents were recorded on video.
The investigation revealed that the attackers mainly operated at night. They waited for their victims, pushed them, causing them to fall and get injured, and then fled in cars. As a result, the victims sustained various injuries. During the investigation, authorities managed to identify the license plates of the vehicles used by the assailants to reach the scene and collected statements from the victims.
Charges and Case Progress
The detainees are facing charges under three articles: hate crimes, bodily harm, and traffic violations. Both suspects are Spanish citizens. As noted by the Civil Guard, the investigation began after a migrant filed a report in November last year. Shortly thereafter, several similar incidents were recorded.
Context and Response
All case materials have been submitted to the Court of First Instance and Investigation No. 2 of Torrent. The incidents have raised concern in the region, which has previously seen xenophobic attacks. For example, in Extremadura, unknown individuals left a xenophobic inscription on the facade of a migrant aid foundation — details of this incident were also covered in the Spanish media.
Reference
The Civil Guard regularly records cases of hate crimes in various regions of Spain. In recent years, the country has focused more on protecting the rights of migrants and combating discrimination. Authorities emphasize the importance of timely response to such incidents in order to prevent conflicts from escalating.
