On Friday night, a tragic incident occurred at the Rodalies de Castellbisbal railway station (Barcelona): a person died from an electric shock on the tracks. According to the Catalan police, the incident happened around 4:00 a.m., and an investigation into all the circumstances is currently underway.
Due to this incident, train traffic on the R4 line between Martorell and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat was completely halted at the request of the Mossos d’Esquadra. As confirmed by Renfe, the suspension was in effect from 6:27 to 6:54 a.m., causing delays and inconvenience for morning commuters.
The Catalan police have not yet disclosed details about the victim’s identity or possible reasons for being on the tracks. The investigation is ongoing, and officials emphasize that any theories are premature at this time. Authorities remind the public to observe safety precautions near railway sites.
Disruptions and incidents on Spanish railways are not uncommon. In particular, issues of coordination between transport companies and emergency services have been raised before: for example, in Valencia, the problem of the lack of timely notification to Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana about risks was discussed, which became part of an official investigation.
Renfe notes that after the restrictions were lifted, full train service on the R4 line was restored. However, passengers are advised to monitor schedule updates and take possible changes into account in case of similar incidents.
