Russia has completed the assembly of a prototype of the fifth-generation Su-75 Checkmate fighter jet. According to representatives of Sukhoi, the aircraft is currently in the final stages of preparation for its maiden flight, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The Checkmate project was first introduced to the public in the summer of 2021 at the MAKS air show. At the time, the demonstrator attracted significant attention from experts and observers due to its blend of advanced technologies and its stated affordability for international customers.
The Su-75 is being developed as a lightweight tactical fighter with stealth capabilities. Engineers have focused on minimizing radar visibility, enhancing maneuverability, and integrating advanced electronic systems. The designers intend for the aircraft to fill a market niche between heavy fighters and lighter, previous-generation jets.
