In Alicante, police have discovered the body of businessman Jesús Tavira, who went missing on March 18. The remains were found on Tuesday in the home of one of the employees of the car dealership owned by the deceased. According to law enforcement, the body was located in a concrete-filled pit on the property in the El Bacarot area. The main suspects are a mechanic who worked for Tavira and his wife. Both were detained along with another man.
The investigation determined that after Tavira’s disappearance, his car and two mobile phones were found burned on the outskirts of the city. From the moment he went missing, police conducted an investigation without disclosing details. Only after searching the home of the mechanic and his wife, both Algerian nationals, were human remains discovered. The victim’s family identified a medallion found at the scene as belonging to Tavira, but final confirmation of identity will be established by DNA analysis.
Investigation details
The search of the suspects’ house lasted over seven hours. During this time, the couple, who lived in the rented home with their underage children, remained calm. However, after the body was found, the mechanic’s wife could not contain her emotions. According to EL PAÍS, the body was hidden in an old well or reservoir that had been filled with concrete. Judicial authorities have already launched an investigation, and the detainees will soon appear before court.
Connection to the CAM case
Jesús Tavira was known in Alicante not only as a car dealership owner, but also as a former auctioneer and private lender. He was one of the key witnesses in the ongoing unsolved case of the murder of the widow of the former president of Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo (CAM), which has remained unresolved for ten years. New developments surrounding the disappearance and death of Tavira have once again brought public attention to this high-profile case.
Context and Parallels
The investigation into Tavira’s murder has become one of the most discussed events in the region in recent months. Scrutiny of the police and judiciary intensified following a series of high-profile incidents involving disappearances and crimes across Spain. For example, recent expert findings in the Iryo train crash near Córdoba were actively debated nationwide, where new photos from the scene of the accident were published, which also sparked wide public reaction.
