On Wednesday, April 29, an orange weather alert was declared in Rivas-Vaciamadrid and the southeast of the Madrid region. The decision is due to forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms, which, according to the Agencia Estatal de MeteorologΓa AEMET, are expected from noon until 22:00. In response to the warning, Rivas authorities immediately activated the municipal protection plan PLATERIVAS to coordinate emergency services and minimize possible weather-related impacts.
Within the PLATERIVAS framework, all key city departments are involved: the local police, Guardia Civil, ProtecciΓ³n Civil, as well as Rivamadrid services and municipal maintenance departments. The main goal is to respond quickly to any incidents related to heavy rain and ensure residents’ safety. Authorities remind the public that in case of emergencies, they should call 092 (police) or 112 (Madrid emergency services).
Special attention is being given to warning about risks near rivers and in areas with dense vegetation. Residents are strongly advised to avoid walking in such locations until the warning is lifted. Similar measures have already been implemented in other regions of Spain: for example, in the Valencian Community, authorities also imposed a higher danger level due to heavy rain and wind, as detailed in the article on response measures to storm warnings in Valencia.
Authorities emphasize that coordination between services and timely public information remain key tools for preventing the impact of severe weather. Should the situation worsen, the city is prepared to promptly expand response measures and deploy additional resources.
