Police in Arona Arrest Man Wanted by Polish Authorities

Dangerous fugitive arrested in Tenerife: 40 crimes and 485 years in prison

A man hiding from justice on 40 charges has been arrested in Arona. He was sought for crimes against persons, firearms, drugs, and fraud. The maximum sentence he faces is 485 years.

In the municipality of Arona on Tenerife, officers of the National Police have detained a man whom the Polish authorities consider one of the most dangerous fugitives in recent years. According to El Pais, he is suspected of committing more than 40 crimes, including serious offenses against individuals, illegal possession and manufacturing of weapons, drug trafficking, and large-scale fraud. The maximum combined sentence for these charges could reach up to 485 years in prison.

Polish law enforcement authorities put the man on an international wanted list and sent a European arrest and extradition warrant to Spain. The operation to locate him began back in September 2025, when the Polish side suspected the fugitive was hiding in the Canary Islands. According to police, the fugitive used sophisticated concealment measures to avoid detection and repeatedly changed his tactics.

Two failed attempts at arrest

During the investigation, it was discovered that the man lived in Arona with his wife and two children. Several months before his arrest, he evaded the police twice. In one case, spotting surveillance near his home, he rushed inside and jumped off a five-meter-high balcony, managing to escape. The second time, in February, he was stopped at a routine road check, but presented forged documents and attempted to flee by car, endangering other road users and police officers. During the chase, he damaged several vehicles but again avoided capture.

Final operation

After these incidents, the police determined that the suspect was hiding in a house on a dead-end street — this allowed him to quickly react to any potential threat. He rarely left the home and kept the front door open so he could instantly return inside if necessary. For the final stage of the operation, the special unit GOES was deployed. On Wednesday morning, when the man went outside to walk his dog and stepped away from the entrance, officers blocked off the area. This time, his attempt to flee was unsuccessful: the suspect was apprehended on the spot, and no one was injured.

Context and other cases

This case became one of the most high-profile arrests in recent months in the Canary Islands. Attention to police work in Spain has increased following a series of high-profile incidents, including protests by law enforcement officers in Madrid, where the mass demonstration gathered far fewer participants than expected. According to El Pais, the detainee will soon be handed over to the Polish authorities. His arrest was the result of lengthy and multi-stage work by Spanish and Polish agencies, and is also an example of how international cooperation helps locate and neutralize particularly dangerous criminals even outside their home country.
