In Extremadura, after the Copa del Rey final between Real Sociedad and Atlético, an incident occurred that drew the attention of the police and the public. On the A-66 highway near Almendralejo, a 33-year-old Real Sociedad fan began aggressively pursuing a car with supporters of the Madrid club. According to the Civil Guard, the man performed dangerous maneuvers, forcing the other car to slow down and creating a threat to its passengers.
The situation gained publicity after one of the passengers filmed the events and posted the video on social media. Thanks to this footage, investigators from the Traffic Accident Investigation Group (GIAT) of Extremadura’s traffic police quickly identified and located the suspect. As a result of the operation, judicial police officers from Gipuzkoa detained the man in San Sebastián.
The detainee is under investigation for violating road safety regulations. According to the Civil Guard, his actions could have had serious consequences for all road users on that stretch of the highway. Such incidents are receiving increased attention from law enforcement, especially after major sporting events, when the number of conflicts between fans on the roads tends to rise.
In recent years, the Spanish police have regularly encountered incidents on roads involving aggressive driver behavior after mass events. For example, previously in the country, suspects whose actions on the highway posed a threat to others had already been detained—as was the case with the arrest of a dangerous fugitive in Ávila, where eyewitness video recordings also played a role.
