This year, at the Feria de Abril in Seville, special attention was drawn to the Caseta Cadena SER, located at the intersection of Pepe Luis Vázquez and Pascual Márquez streets. Here, at the heart of the festivities, representatives from politics, culture, sports, and business gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the newspaper EL PAÍS. This decision by the organizers became a major event for the city: for the first time, one of the most recognizable venues at the Feria de Abril was entirely dedicated to the anniversary of a national publication that has played a key role in covering the changes in Andalusia and all of Spain.
Anniversary in the Spotlight
The design of Caseta Cadena SER this year revolves around iconic EL PAÍS covers, including those dedicated to the 28 February 1980 referendum and the first steps of Andalusian autonomy. The stage features the newspaper’s front page, while the entire hall is decorated with themed photo materials and archival images prepared by photojournalists from the Andalusian edition. This approach not only highlights EL PAÍS’s contribution to the development of the region but also creates a sense of closeness between the publication and the residents of Seville.
Media as a Mirror of Change
According to the management of Cadena SER Andalucía, the choice of the anniversary theme was no accident: in 50 years, EL PAÍS has been both a witness to and chronicler of key events in Spain’s history—from the establishment of autonomy to social reforms. This is reflected in Caseta Cadena SER through a selection of materials dedicated to major dates and achievements of the region. Live broadcasts of Radio Sevilla are also held here, and the stage hosts renowned artists such as María del Monte, Cantores de Híspalis, Pitingo, and Beret.
Connection with the City and New Formats
The festive atmosphere of the Feria de Abril is complemented by the works of photojournalists Pablo Juliá, José Manuel Pérez Cabo, José Antonio García Cordero, and Alejandro Cordero, whose images capture not only official events but also the everyday life of the celebration. This format highlights how closely Grupo Prisa’s leading media outlets are connected with the city and its residents. This year, the Caseta Cadena SER has become not only a meeting place, but also a venue for discussing the role of the press in society.
New events are ahead
The celebration of EL PAÍS’s anniversary in Seville is a prelude to the large-scale Festival EL PAÍS, which will take place in Madrid from May 1 to 3. The program includes discussions with prominent cultural figures, meetings with journalists, and concerts. This format broadens the dialogue between the media and the audience, and also underscores the importance of regional events for the entire country. Against this backdrop of attention to the Feria de Abril, it is worth noting that this year’s weather conditions have also become a topic of discussion: abnormal heat and the risk of rain have affected the plans of many guests and city residents.
