Omoda 4 SHS Enters the Scene: Chery Changes the Game for Spain

Chery’s New Wave: Omoda 4 SHS, Lepas, and Exlantis Gear Up for Spanish Market Launch

Chery has unveiled the Omoda 4 SHS and announced the Lepas and Exlantis brands for Spain. The new model targets young drivers and features hybrid technology. Ahead lies an expanded lineup and new electric vehicles.

Chery is betting on Spain by bringing several new models and brands to the market. At Auto China 2026, the company presented the Omoda 4 SHS—an important new product for its European lineup—and also unveiled plans to launch two new brands: Lepas and Exlantis. This large-scale approach highlights Chery’s ambition to strengthen its position in one of Europe’s most dynamic car markets.

Omoda 4 SHS: Targeting young buyers and hybrids

The main premiere is the Omoda 4 SHS, a new C-segment crossover measuring 4.42 meters long that is set to expand the Omoda range in Spain. According to the brand, the model targets young buyers, reflected in its aggressive design with sharp lines, striking LED lights, and dynamic proportions. Inside, the emphasis is on digital technology, ambient lighting, and materials designed to create a video game-like presence.

Technically, the Omoda 4 SHS stands out with the SHS (Super Hybrid System) hybrid system delivering up to 224 hp and 295 Nm of torque. At its core is a 1.5T DHE turbo engine and a 1.83 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, promising low fuel consumption and smooth dynamics. The electric version develops 155 kW (211 hp) and offers a range of over 400 km thanks to a 61.1 kWh battery. This set of features makes the model competitive in a segment where demand for hybrids and electric vehicles in Spain continues to grow.

Lepas and Exlantis: New brands for Europe

Chery is not limiting itself to just one new model. Following the success of Omoda, which captured about 5% of the market in less than two years, the company is expanding its portfolio with Lepas and Exlantis. Lepas will launch in June with the L8 model — a large SUV featuring a PHEV system, to be followed by the electric and hybrid L6 and L4. Notably, Lepas was created specifically for export and is not available on the Chinese market: its design and concept were adapted to suit European tastes, and its positioning is similar to Omoda.

Exlantis, on the other hand, is already known in China under the name Exceed and will target the premium segment. The first models — ES and ES GT — will arrive in Spain in the first half of 2027. Both cars belong to the E-segment, are over 4.9 meters long, and will be available only with an electric powertrain with output up to 353 kW (480 hp). The 100 kWh battery supports fast charging up to 420 kW and offers a range of up to 600 km. Hybrid versions are expected later. Exlantis puts the focus on advanced technology: an 800-volt architecture, ultra-fast charging, and an entirely new platform.

Spanish market: new challenges and opportunities

The introduction of three new brands and the expansion of Chery’s lineup is a significant signal for the Spanish market. The hybrid and electric crossover segment in the country is steadily growing, and competition is intensifying not only due to traditional European brands, but also thanks to the active entry of Chinese manufacturers. Judging by its strategy, Chery is betting on a younger audience, modern technology, and adaptation to European standards, which could shift the balance of power in the C and E segments.

In this context, it’s interesting to compare Chery’s approach with other market players. For example, the Mazda MX-5 and Honda Prelude offer different driving philosophies and equipment for Spanish buyers, which was explored in detail in the article comparing these models on the Spanish market — more about the competition among Japanese newcomers.

Reference: what you need to know

Omoda 4 SHS and new Chery brands will appear in Spain in the coming months and years, but exact prices and configurations have not yet been disclosed. Lepas is focused on export and will compete with European and Asian brands in the mid-range segment, while Exlantis targets the premium class with an emphasis on electric vehicles. For Spanish consumers, this means an expanded choice in segments previously dominated by traditional brands. In the coming years, a new wave of Chinese models is expected to enter the market, and Chery clearly does not intend to remain in the shadows.
