Hyundai IONIQ 3 launches in Spain: the compact that could shake up the market

New Hyundai IONIQ 3: nearly 500 km range and a spacious interior for the city

Hyundai is preparing to launch the IONIQ 3 in Spain—an electric compact with a range of up to 490 km. The model promises spaciousness, eye-catching design, and a competitive price below the IONIQ 5. An important newcomer for the urban segment.

Hyundai continues to strengthen its position in the Spanish market, focusing on expanding its electric lineup. The new Hyundai IONIQ 3 is not just another electric car, but a strategic move by the brand in the segment of city compacts. At a time when demand for affordable and practical electric vehicles in Spain is growing, the launch of the IONIQ 3 could be a significant event for buyers seeking a balance between price, range, and modern design.

Design and Philosophy

The IONIQ 3 immediately stands out among competitors, thanks to Hyundai’s signature ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy. The look of the model is based on a combination of sharp lines and distinctive silhouette graphics, giving the car individuality even in heavy city traffic. The front end is reminiscent of the larger IONIQ 6, while the vertical rear with sloping glass and slim LED lights emphasizes a dynamic character. Importantly, aerodynamics is not sacrificed for practicality here: the drag coefficient is 0.263, which has a positive effect on both efficiency and interior space.

N Line Version and Interior

For those who appreciate a sporty style, Hyundai offers the N Line version with black decorative elements, enlarged air intakes, a massive spoiler, and 19-inch wheels. The interior features red accents and the signature N steering wheel, adding a sense of emotion. Despite its compact dimensions (4.15 m long, 1.80 m wide, 1.50 m high), the cabin feels spacious: a 2.68 m wheelbase ensures comfort for adult passengers in all seats, though headroom in the rear row is limited by the sloping roof.

The trunk deserves special mention: the standard volume is 322 liters, but thanks to the 119-liter ‘Megabox’ double floor, the total capacity reaches 441 liters without folding the seats. This makes the IONIQ 3 one of the most practical electric compacts in its class.

Technology and Equipment

Inside, the Hyundai IONIQ 3 combines digital solutions with familiar physical buttons. The instrument panel measures 8.9 inches, while the central multimedia screen reaches 14.6 inches (or 12.9 inches in the base version). The system supports an app store, bringing functionality closer to that of smartphones. Climate control and several other functions are assigned to separate buttons for greater convenience in everyday use.

Technical Platform and Charging

The model is built on the E-GMP platform with a 400-volt architecture. Buyers will be offered two battery options: 42.2 kWh with a 147 hp electric motor (range over 335 km, 0–100 km/h in 9 seconds) and a 61 kWh unit for the Long Range version with 135 hp (WLTP range — over 490 km, 0–100 km/h in 9.6 seconds). Both variants have an average consumption of around 14 kWh per 100 km. AC charging is available up to 11 kW, while fast DC charging reaches up to 119 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in about 29 minutes. An optional 22 kW onboard charger is also available.

Market prospects and price

Hyundai has not yet disclosed the price of the IONIQ 3, but the starting price is expected to be below the current threshold for the IONIQ 5 (30,985 euros). This could make the new model one of the most affordable and attractive options among urban electric compacts in Spain. More information about trims and sales conditions will be available in the coming months, and the first units should appear on Spanish roads later this year.

The arrival of the Hyundai IONIQ 3 on the Spanish market comes amid growing competition among electric cars, where every new player must offer not only advanced technology but also real practicality for city life. In this context, it is especially interesting to compare Hyundai’s approach with how Chinese brands, such as Denza, are entering the European market with a focus on design and technology — more details about this can be found in our article on the Denza Z9 GT EV and its challenge to the premium segment.

The Hyundai IONIQ 3 is not just a new electric car, but an important step for the brand in competing for the mass urban buyer in Spain. A combination of driving range, a practical interior, and an expected competitive price could make this model one of the most notable premieres of the year in its segment.
