A large-scale outage in ChatGPT’s operation has affected users worldwide. The service stopped responding to requests around 16:00 local time, sparking a wave of complaints and discussions on social media. OpenAI has officially confirmed the existence of technical issues and announced the start of an internal investigation.
Users were unable to receive responses from ChatGPT: instead of the usual dialogues, the system displayed error messages, including “Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong.” According to the Downdetector platform, by the time of publication, more than 1,800 outage reports had been registered. On social media, especially on X, discussion of the problem quickly gained momentum — many noted that the familiar tool had become unavailable without warning.
OpenAI clarified that the outage affected the ChatGPT chatbot specifically, while the API continues to function as normal. Issues are observed across all main modules, including Codex. The causes of the incident have not yet been disclosed; no official explanations have been provided by the company. OpenAI representatives limited themselves to a statement on the start of an investigation and promised to keep users informed.
Amid the outage, many turned their attention to alternative solutions — services such as Gemini by Google and Claude by Anthropic are being suggested as temporary replacements for ChatGPT. However, for most users, ChatGPT remains the main tool for work and communication with artificial intelligence.
The situation continues to develop. At the time of publication, OpenAI had not provided either a timeline for service restoration or details about the nature of the outage. Users are waiting for official updates and looking for temporary solutions to complete their tasks.
