Volkswagen Takes Electric Vans to the Next Level: Record Range and Flexibility for Spain

Volkswagen Electrifes: Vans with Up to 469 km Range and Urban Hybrids

Volkswagen strengthens its position in the Spanish market by offering the widest range of electrified vans. The lineup includes PHEVs with up to 119 km of range and fully electric vehicles boasting a record 469 km.

Volkswagen is firmly consolidating its leadership in the Spanish electrified commercial vehicle segment, offering one of the most versatile lineups on the market. The focus is not only on the breadth of the range, but also on accurately meeting real needs: from urban deliveries and passenger transport to family leisure and zero-emission last-mile logistics. This approach allows the brand not just to follow the trend, but to set it, taking into account the specifics of the Spanish market, where autonomy, payload, and versatility often matter more than in passenger models.

Sales growth and a focus on electrification

By the end of 2025, Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales sold over 22,000 vehicles in Spain, capturing around 12% of the market and delivering a dealer network profitability of 3%—twice the segment average. Particularly notable is the growth in the electrified segment: in the first quarter of 2026, sales increased by 200%, reaching 1,080 units, while the entire Spanish commercial EV market grew by only 74%. This result is driven not only by an expanded model range, but also by smart positioning of each version for specific business and private client needs.

Hybrids for the city and versatile solutions

In the PHEV segment, Volkswagen is focusing on models capable of covering daily routes with zero local emissions. The VW Caddy eHybrid and Caddy Cargo eHybrid, launched in 2025, are equipped with a 110 kW (150 hp) powertrain and a 19.7 kWh battery. The electric driving range reaches 119 km in the combined cycle and up to 147 km in the city — one of the best figures among hybrid vans on the market. The total range is up to 630 km, and charging is possible via both AC (11 kW) and DC (40 kW). The Caddy is available as a 7-seater passenger version or a cargo variant with up to 3.7 m³ of space, making it a versatile tool for small businesses and families.

In 2026, the lineup will be expanded with the VW Transporter PHEV and Caravelle PHEV, featuring a 171 kW (232 hp) powertrain and a 16.5 kWh battery. The Transporter PHEV is designed for professionals: up to 57 km of electric range in the combined cycle (80 km in the city), a total range of 820 km, and a cargo compartment from 5.8 to 9 m³. The Caravelle PHEV is tailored for passenger transport: up to 9 seats, 54 km of electric range (76 km in the city), and up to 800 km total. The Multivan eHybrid stands out with 180 kW (245 hp) of power, a 19.7 kWh battery, and up to 91 km of range (120 km in the city), offering flexible seating from 5 to 8 seats. For camping enthusiasts, there’s the California eHybrid with the same technology, 88 km electric range, and 4 seats — a solution for those who value mobility and sustainability.

Pure electric vehicles: Focus on range and comfort

In the 100% electric vehicle segment, the key model is the ID. Buzz — a modern interpretation of the classic Volkswagen T1, now available in Spain in both cargo (Cargo, 3.9 m³) and passenger versions (up to 7 seats, two body lengths). The model is equipped with batteries of 58, 79, or 86 kWh, providing up to 469 km in the combined cycle and up to 626 km in the city. Power output reaches up to 250 kW (340 hp) with rapid DC charging up to 200 kW. The new E-MOTION version offers 7 seats as standard, two-tone paintwork, 19-inch wheels, and an extended comfort package.

For the professional segment, the e-Transporter is presented with a 70 kWh battery, a range of up to 371 km (522 km in the city), 100 kW (136 hp) power, and fast DC charging up to 125 kW. Cargo volume ranges from 5.8 to 9 m³, which is especially important for intensive operations. The passenger e-Caravelle on the same platform offers up to 9 seats, a 70 kWh battery, a range of 345 km (482 km in the city), and 160 kW (220 hp) of power. This approach allows Volkswagen to compete in several niches at once, offering solutions for different use cases.

Market context and competition

The Spanish commercial electric vehicle market is becoming increasingly competitive, and Volkswagen is actively responding to the challenges by expanding its lineup and focusing on real-world applications. Importantly, the brand is not limited to electric versions alone, but also offers hybrid options for those not yet ready to completely give up internal combustion engines. This balance helps maintain market share and attract new clients, particularly against the backdrop of growing interest in electrification in cities and among corporate fleets.

Against the backdrop of new Volkswagen models being released, interest in the electrification of commercial transport in Spain has grown significantly. This trend is also seen among other brands: for example, the Volkswagen ID. Polo 2026 recently debuted on the market, also focusing on affordability and expanding the electric lineup — you can learn more about its features in the article about the return of the iconic Polo name in an electric version.

For reference: Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales continues to strengthen its position in Spain thanks to a wide range, flexible architecture, and a focus on the real needs of businesses and private customers. This approach allows the brand not only to maintain its leadership but also to set new standards in the commercial electric vehicle segment.
